New car sales in the Netherlands are stabilising in July, down just 0.8% year-on-year to 30,666 registrations, however the year-to-date total is still down a horrid 33% on 2012 at 241,675 units. It’s a month full of surprises in the models ranking: for the first time in any country in the world – and very interestingly this is not happening in Sweden, the Volvo V40 is the most popular model in the Netherlands in July thanks to 1,616 sales and 5.3%! This is a great performance for Volvo, as the V40 has struggled to remain on the Swedish podium and the Netherlands is a much bigger market than Sweden.
The second place is also a surprise: the Renault Clio improves on an already outstanding third place in June at 1,572 units and 5.1% and is now #7 year-to-date. The VW Golf is up 2 spots to #3 and ranks #2 year-to-date while the VW Up! is down 2 to #4 but remains the 2013 best-seller so far thanks to 10,001 units and 4.1% share. Other great performers include the Toyota Auris up 24 spots to #11, Volvo V60 up 28 to #13 and the BMW 5 Series is up 13 to #18.
Finally, notice the Renault Captur up 46 ranks to #26 with 309 sales and 1% share and the Peugeot 2008 down 6 to #32 at 266 units and 0.9%.
