One year ago, the Dutch new car market surged in anticipation of low-emission cars subsidies coming to an end on July 1. As a result, this year new car sales are down a horrendous 54% year-on-year to 35,285 registrations. However this does not explain everything, as the market is still down a harsh 30% over June 2011… The Renault Megane reclaims the top spot, as it has now done for 9 of the last 14 months, thanks to 1,536 sales and 4.4%. It is now #4 year-to-date. The VW Up! is down one spot to #2 at 1,336 units and 3.8% but keeps the 2013 year-to-date lead by far with 8,970 sales and 4.2% vs. 7,636 and 3.6% for the Ford Focus, 4th this month.

Excellent month for the Renault Clio which is creeping up the sales charts of almost every European country: it is up 8 ranks on May to land on the third step of the Dutch models podium at 1,252 units and 3.5%. It is now #9 year-to-date vs. #29 in 2012… Further down, notice the Opel Corsa up 11 spots to #10, the Peugeot 2008 up 45 to #26, the Mercedes CLA up 35 to land just outside the Top 50 at #51, the Renault Captur up 24 to #72 and the BMW 3 Series GT making its very first appearance in the Dutch ranking at #98 with 72 sales.
