This is it: the Russian market is now officially as depressed as the rest of Europe: with June down 10% year-on-year to 241,346 registrations, we have our 4th consecutive month of year-on-year decline and the year-to-date total is now down 6% on 2012 to 1,333,314 units. At least there is one model smiling this month: the Lada Granta. 18 months after its original launch in the country, it is starting to really stretch its… wheels: beating both its volume and share records to 17,005 sales and 7%, doubling its June 2012 score. This is the highest market share reached by any model in Russia since January 2011 when the Lada 2104/2107 hit 7.7%. How times have changed!
In fact, the entire Top 6 best-sellers are unchanged on May. The Hyundai Solaris lodges its third consecutive month above 10,000 sales at 10,575 and 4.4% share, up 11% year-on-year, and the next 3 models remain at their highest ever ranking in Russia: the Kia Rio is on the Russian podium for the third time ever after March and May 2013 at #3 with 8,047 units and 3.3%, the Renault Duster ranks #4 for the third time after January and May 2013 and the VW Polo is 5th for the 2nd month running, now passing the Ford Focus to rank #6 year-to-date.
The Largus is now the 2nd best-selling Lada at home in Russia.
In May the Granta was only Lada in the Top 6, this month it is the only one in the Top 7, with the Largus (a rebadged previous gen Dacia Logan MCV), becoming the brand’s 2nd best-seller for the very first time thanks to a record #8 spot in spite of sales down on May to 5,034 units and 2.1%. The rest of the range is hit hard: the Priora is down 52% to #9, the 4×4 down 16% to #15, the Kalina down 77% to #21 and the Samara down 61% to #24. As a result, Lada dives to just 15.4% market share this month, when Hyundai and Kia combined add up to 14.3%!
Geely Vision. Geely sales in Russia are up 133% year-on-year in June.
Notice also the Chevrolet Cruze back up 5 ranks on May to #7, the Toyota Camry up 3 to #17 and the Hyundai ix35 up 4 to #18, while the Toyota RAV4 is up 81% year-on-year to #12. In the brands ranking, the best performers in the June Top 30 are once again Chinese: Geely is up 133% year-on-year to #24, Lifan up 51% to #25 and Great Wall up 50% to #30. Other gainers include Mercedes up 26% to #15, SsangYong up 29% to #17 and Fiat up 97% to #34, albeit from a very low base.
