Ukraine April 2013: Hyundai Accent and VW Polo on top

Ukrainian new car sales are flamboyantly back into positive territory in April, up a whopping 33% year-on-year to 25,884 registrations which brings the year-to-date total to 67,512 units, up 5% on 2012. The Hyundai Accent seems to have found its calling: it is the most popular model in the country for the third month in a row thanks to 929 sales and 3.6% share, reinforcing its 2013 year-to-date pole position at 2,361 units and 3.5%. The VW Polo also excels this month, up 4 spots on March and 84% year-on-year to #2 with 872 sales and 3.4% and now #4 year-to-date. The Kia Rio remains in third place both in April and year-to-date at 794 units and 3.1% and 1,900 sales and 2.8% respectively. Notice the Geely CK holding onto its 2nd spot YTD in spite of dropping to #5 this month.

After breaking into the Ukrainian Top 10 and Top 5 for the first time last month, the ZAZ Vida which is none other than a badge-engineered previous generation Chevrolet Aveo is up one further rank in April to #4 at 687 units and 2.7% and is now #7 YTD. Other great performers this month include the Toyota RAV4 up 219% to #8 thanks to the new generation, the Hyundai Elantra up 8 spots to #9, the Geely Emgrand EC7 extremely solid again at #12, up 414% year-on-year, the SsangYong Korando up 205% to #16 and the Renault Sandero up 111% to #19.

Further down, notice the Skoda Rapid landing directly in 36th position with 235 sales, the Citroen C-Elysee at #38, the BYD F3 up 684% on April 2012 to #42, the Peugeot 301 breaking into the Ukrainian Top 50 for the first time at #47 with 183 units, the MG 350 up to #77, Lifan X60 up to #100 and the Chery E5/Elara up 420% to #118.
