The new car market in Ukraine stabilises in March at 20,254 registrations, down just o.4% on March 2012. However the year-to-date total is still down 7% on 2012 to 44,174 units. The Ukrainian models and brands ranking has been going through a fundamental transformation over the last 18 months. Formerly dominated by local brand ZAZ and Russian Lada, leaders up to 2011, the brands ranking is now totally reshuffled: Hyundai is #1 in March with 9% share, up 6% year-on-year, followed by Geely at 7.5% share (+56%) and Kia at 7.3% (+12%)...
The models ranking reflects this evolution, with the Hyundai Accent being the most popular car in the country for the 2nd month running in March thanks to 719 sales and 3.5% share. The Geely CK is flamboyant once again, up 2 spots on February to #2 at 576 units and 2.8%. It is the 8th time in the last 12 months the CK has managed to rank within the Ukrainian Top 6, even holding the pole position last July, December and January. The CK is #2 so far in 2012 with 1,325 sales and 3%. The Kia Rio rounds up the podium at 524 units and 2.6%, its first time on the podium in at least 18 months.
ZAZ's salvation could come in the form of the ZAZ Vida, a badge-engineered previous generation Chevrolet Aveo which brilliantly breaks into the Ukrainian Top 10 and Top 5 for the first time this month at #5 with 495 sales and 2.4% and now ranks #9 year-to-date. Other great performers this month in Ukraine include the Geely Emgrand EC7 up to a best-ever #9 and its 2nd time in the Top 10 in the last 3 months, the Nissan Juke up 5 ranks to #11, the Toyota RAV4 up 74 to #13, Geely MK-2/Cross up 66 to #15, Nissan X-Trail up 8 to #18, SsangYong Korando up 14 to #20 and the Citroen C-Elysee up 41 to #35.
