Polish new car sales finally align with the rest of the European gloom, down a painful 15% year-on-year in March to 28,586 registrations. This brings the year-to-date total to 85,326 units, down 3% on 2012. Generally relatively stable (the Skoda Octavia managed to stay at #1 for 44 consecutive months until last November), the Polish models ranking offers us a staggering mix of surprises this month. First things first, the Toyota Yaris is the most popular car in the country in March with 898 sales and 3.1% share. It is the first time in 5 years (since August 2008 exactly) that the Yaris manages to top the Polish models ranking.
The Skoda Fabia remains #2 at 819 units and a weak 2.9% share but stays #1 year-to-date at 3,303 sales and 3.9%. The second massive surprise is the arrival of the Toyota Auris in third position at 797 units and 2.8% share, up 14 spots on February and 160% on March 2012. This is the first time the Auris ever manages to jump onto the Polish monthly podium and its 2nd strongest ever monthly volume since the nameplate's launch in early 2007 below the 978 units it sold in April 2008. Add in the VW Golf up 5 ranks on last month passing the Skoda Octavia down 5 spots to #6 and you have a pretty interesting top of the ranking this month!
Also to notice: the Kia Cee'd breaks into the Top 10, up 3 spots to #10, the Skoda Rapid is up 8 to break into the Top 20 for the first time at #20 with 358 sales and 1.3% - and probably the indirect source of all the troubles above, the Toyota RAV4 is up 44 ranks to #24, Dacia Lodgy up 4 to #36 and the Dacia Dokker breaks into the Top 50 at #40.
