The Polish new car market is down 8% year-on-year in November to 26,867 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 287,025 units vs. 287,083 at the same time last year, so pretty stable! Massive event atop the models ranking: for the first time since February 2009, the Skoda Octavia is not #1, with the title of most popular model in Poland going to the Opel Astra this month thanks to 1,179 sales and 4.4% share. Note that this coincides with the launch of the Astra sedan version (picture above) and that these figures also include the previous generation Astra, which was also the #1 model in Poland in February 2009, the last time the Octavia wasn’t #1. The Octavia is down to #2 at 953 units and 3.5% this month but stays #1 year-to-date by far with 14,843 sales and 5.2% with the Astra at #3 with 8,246 units and 2.9%.

Opel Corsa

It’s an excellent month for Opel indeed, up to #2 brand in November at 2,478 sales and 9.2% vs. 2,497 and 9.3% for Skoda, and also placing the Corsa at #3 with 781 sales and 2.9%, up 13 spots on October. The Skoda Fabia stays #4 and ranks #2 year-to-date at 9,103 units and 3.2%. Notice also the Renault Clio up 21 ranks to #6, the Ford Fiesta up 19 to #7, the Kia Cee’d  up 3 to #16, the VW Tiguan up 15 to #22, the Peugeot 308 up 54 to #25 and the Dacia Lodgy cuts its ranking in half, up to #41 with 200 sales.

Peugeot 301

Further down, the Citroen DS4 is up a further 30 spots to #54 vs. #111 year-to-date while its big sis the Citroen DS5 is up 49 to #90 vs. #152 YTD… A few recent launches progress this month: the Volvo V40 is up 14 ranks to #59, the Skoda Rapid up 66 to #80, the Dacia Dokker up to #106 at 62 units and the Mercedes Citan up 20 to #113. Finally, we welcome the Peugeot 301 in the Polish ranking this month, landing at #159 with 26 sales.

    Hey guys,
    no idea about ds3 sales.
The reason for low sales of SEAT is some kind of fight between Polish dealership and VW. I don’t know the details but SEATs are sold by some local company (or together with it). The same for VW, Audis and Skoda, but now VW took over. And they want to take over SEAT as well, they sign some agreement 3 or 4 years back and the price is based also on the number of sales of SEATs in recent years. So you can clearly see the incentives for VW, they keep wholesale prices of SEATs high so that local dealership is forced to keep high prices (which are above market levels for similar prices) and sales are low. Once they take over, SEAT should be back in the game.
I am just wondering how this local company agreed to sign such deal.
And another thing – Seat has just Ibiza, nothing more. Leon is old, Altea is old, Mia is not really in the market, Exco is old. And Toledo is not yet in the market I guess, tho given how Rapid was priced I do not except good sales for Toledo. So only Ibiza is interesting

Poland must be one of the weakest main markets for SEAT. As with Italy, what has gone wrong here?

I’m wondering why Citroen ds3 sells that bad in Poland whereas the ds4 is quite successful

No surprise the Octavia is # 2 only, since the new generation Octavia is just around the corner.

And this is because Opel had a great discounts for their 150 anniversary. And Astra III with aircon costed just slightly more than B-class car with aircon, Astra IV costed slighly less than similar Cee’d or I30 and so on. The share of individual purchasers went up significantly for Opel. Next month (or January) they will be back to 3rd place or so I guess. Although Skoda will have troubles if they stop selling Octavia Tour, since Rapid is way too expensive. And despite a lot of buzz in the media, only 88 rapids were sold, mostly for dealerships.
