Philippines November 2012: Toyota & Mitsubishi dominate

According to the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI), sales of local vehicle assemblers are up 21% year-on-year in November to 14,620 units, bringing the year-to-date total to 141,283 registrations, up 8% on 2011. Once importers (handled by the Association of Vehicles Importers and Distributors – AVID) are added, the figures amount to 16,888 for November (+15%) and 167,555 year-to-date (+9%).
CAMPI president Roque Rommel Gutierrez said the Philippines is on track to set record sales in 2012, “especially as we usually experience increased spending during the holiday season” he said. The expectation for the Full Year 2012 total industry sales is a record-breaking 185,000 units. Brand-wise, Toyota leads with 39.5% share this month and already beats the all-time annual record it set back in 2010 with 58,890 units sold so far in 2012. Mitsubishi lodges its strongest month in the country since 1995 with 3,840 sales, boosted by 1,098 pre-ordered units of the Mitsubishi Mirage which is shaping up to be a runaway hit in the Philippines.
Ford delivers its 2nd highest month ever (best one being last month) at 1,225 sales, up 41% year-on-year, mainly thank to the Ford Ranger at a best-ever 344 units. Year-to-date, the Toyota Vios is #1 at 14,757 sales above the Toyota Innova at 12,005, Mitsubishi Montero Sport at 11,508, Toyota Fortuner at 10,593 (but best-selling SUV in November) and Toyota Avanza at 6,099.
