USA October 2012: Ford F-Series up, Subaru breaks record

New light vehicle sales are up a solid 7% in October to 1,092,205 units (albeit down from +13% in September), bringing the year-to-date total to just under 12 million, up 14% on 2011. The effects of Superstorm Sandy on October sales are minimal but will be substantial in November. Among major brands, Subaru is up 30% year-on-year and has already broken its all-time annual sales record after just 10 months at 271,582, Volkswagen is up 22% and delivers its best October since 1972, BMW is up 21% and Dodge up 20%.
For its part Toyota is up 17%, Audi is up 14% and delivers its 22nd consecutive record month, Kia is up 13% (all-time October record), Chevrolet up 3% and Ford up 1% but Hyundai is down 4% and Nissan down 6%. It’s the 15th time in a row the Ford F-Series delivers year-on-year growth at +8% to 56,497 sales, and the third month in a row at #2 for the Chevrolet Silverado at 38,739 units, 8,813 above the Toyota Camry at #3 and now only 7,775 below the Camry year-to-date…
The Honda Accord is now firmly established in 4th place both in October at 28,349 sales (+25%) and year-to-date at 276,196 units (+36%). The Nissan Altima is up one spot to #6, the Toyota Corolla is up 2 to #7, the Honda Civic up 3 to #8 and the Honda CR-V up one to #9. Notice also the GMC Sierra back in the Top 20 at #16, the Ford Explorer up 6 to #18 and the Kia Optima in the Top 20 for the third time in the last 4 months at #20.
Among recent launches, the Dodge Dart is up 6 spots on last month to #59 at 5,455 sales, the hybrid Ford C-Max is up 228% and 76 ranks to #95 and 3,182 units (and already above the Toyota Prius V!), the Chevrolet Volt is up 4% on September and 169% year-on-year to break into the US monthly Top 100 for the first time at #99 and a record 2,961 sales…
…the Cadillac XTS is up 5 spots to #111 at 2,540 units, the BMW X1 is up 21% and 19 ranks to #128, the Subaru XV Crosstrek up 804% and 103 spots to #132 and the Cadillac ATS up 107% and 37 spots to #156.
