It’s the last rays of sun in Iceland before the polar winter puts the country in (near) darkness 24/7 until March… Fine, it’s a little bit of an exaggeration but still. Icelandic car sales are up a very healthy 83% year-on-year in September to a still limited 518 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 6,806 units, already well above the Full Year 2011 total (5,475). For the first time since last April, the Skoda Octavia leads the models ranking with 57 sales and a mammoth 11% share, exactly double its 2012 level (5.5%). The Toyota Yaris is down to #2 with 38 units (71% hybrid) and 7.3% but stays #1 year-to-date at 426 sales and 6.3%.
Now in runout mode before the imminent arrival of the new generation, the Honda CR-V is up a huge 14 spots on August to a magnificent third position at 23 sales and 4.4%. It is followed by the Kia Cee’d at 3.3% (+4 ranks), and the VW Golf (+5), Renault Megane (=), Mazda2 (+23) and Peugeot 208 (new) all at 12 sales and 2.3%. It’s the Peugeot 208’s first appearance in the Icelandic Top 10.
Other great performers include the Chevrolet Captiva (#11 vs. #17), Hyundai i30 (#12 vs. #18), Ford Kuga (#13 vs. #19), Kia Sorento (#14 vs. #23), Hyundai i20 (#15 vs. #35), Ford Transit (#16 vs. #39) and Chevrolet Aveo (#17 vs. #33).
