As part of the Africa Project you will notice a push for more sales data information over the entire continent. Today and or the first time ever on BSCB I can share with you an all-brands ranking for Tunisia, which has the particularity of imposing annual import volume quotas split by brands. However it would appear that this year the quotas are either more generous or not strictly enforced, because the Tunisian car market is up a whopping 25% year-on-year over the first 8 months of 2012 at 35,044 sales, even when though we witness a 5% fall in August at 4,141 registrations.

Citroen C3

The brands ranking is completely reshuffled in 2012 compared to 2011. At the same time last year Volkswagen was the runaway leader with a massive 16% market share (even though Renault finished 2011 #1) but the German brand is down 11% in 2012 to fall back to #4. As a result French manufacturers monopolise the podium this year, all improving sales much faster than the market: Renault leads the way with 5,097 sales and 14.5% share (+33%) ahead of Peugeot at 4,844 units and 13.8% (+41%) and Citroen at 4,729 sales and 13.5% (+58%). Note that Citroen is #1 in August at 15% while Renault is down to #8.

2013 Dacia Logan. Dacia sales are up 163% in Tunisia in 2012

Below Volkswagen, Fiat, Kia and Ford grow, but slower than the market whereas Dacia at #8 and +163% year-on-year and Seat at #9 and +117% are by far the big winners in the Top 10, while Mitsubishi is in free fall at #10 and -49%. A couple of particularities of the Tunisian market: the weakness of Toyota, only #14 with 1.7% share, and Hyundai at #21 with 0.3% while SsangYong is up 96% to #17 and the absence of Chinese manufacturers. Model-wise, there is absolutely no information available online, so if you have any, please ensure you comment on here!
