Today Renault unveiled the 2nd generation of its low-cost best-sellers Dacia Logan and Sandero. A complete design rethink, both models now look much less ‘low cost’ and get a reworked facia inspired by the recent Duster and Lodgy. This evolution comes 8 years after the Logan’s original launch in 2004 and 4 years after the Sandero kick started production in 2008, and just as the Sandero is beating monthly sales records in Brazil…
Now why am I sharing this with you today? Because I anticipate a few questions in my next worldwide rankings… If the previous generation Logan and Sandero looked very distinct design-wise, you will clearly notice with the pictures in this article that they can now be considered as the hatchback and sedan versions of the same model. A little bit like the Fiat Palio-Siena and VW Gol-Voyage, also very successful in Brazil – and this may not be an innocent choice by Renault.
So I’m asking you dear readers: do you think worldwide sales of Sandero and Logan should now be counted together? In my latest Worldwide Top 150 models ranking for June 2012, the Logan-Sandero couple sells 63,145 units and breaks into the worldwide Top 10… shifting its status from second role to worldwide blockbuster. So, couple or not couple? (I’m leaning towards couple, but curious to see your views).
