Even though some of the subsidies on low emission cars stopped in July, making the market fall by 15% year-on-year in August to 33,211 registrations and 3% year-to-date at 395,573 units, some models with low emission versions are still getting a boost in the Netherlands. For example the Renault Megane, #1 for the 4th consecutive month with an extremely robust 5.7% share in August thanks to 1,888 sales and now at 3.4% year-to-date with 13,345 units. The VW Polo is up one spot to #2 with 1,457 sales and 4.4% share, ahead of its year-to-date level at 15,180 units and 3.8% which is putting it in the top spot.
Down one rank to #3, the VW Up! still impresses with 1,349 units and 4.1% and is now #10 year-to-date and is followed by the Toyota Yaris stable at #4 and now #6 year-to-date. But the big event this month in the Netherlands is the 5th position reached by the Toyota Prius+ with an astounding 1,131 sales and 3.4% share, by far its best performance anywhere in the world, even better than in its native Japan. Clearly linked with government measures towards low emission cars, it will be interesting to see whether this success is short-lived in a country notorious for big month-on-month changes in its models ranking.
The Peugeot 208 continues to progress, up 4 spots to a best-ever #6 with 1,049 sales and 3.2% share, the Hyundai i10 is up 8 ranks to #10, the Fiat 500 is up 12 to #16, the Hyundai i30 up 43 to #23, the Seat Mii up 16 to a world-best #24, the Kia Cee’d up 13 to #30 vs. #80 year-to-date and the Skoda Citigo is up 25 spots to #39.
