As is the tradition, new car sales figures for Turkey are available a little later than others. After 11 consecutive months of decline and for the first time since July 2011, the Turkish car market is actually up year-on-year by 2% to 44,531 registrations in July, bringing the year-to-date total to 289,021 units, down 13% on 2011. The Fiat Linea celebrates its 6th month in a row atop the models ranking with 2,755 sales and 6.2% share, reinforcing its 2012 year-to-date pole position at 18,581 units and 6.4%.
In 2nd place we find the Opel Astra with 2,057 sales and 4.6%, hitting its highest ranking since I follow the Turkish market monthly (January 2010). It is #5 year-to-date at 10,950 units and 3.8%. The Renault Fluence is down one spot to #3 with 1,861 sales and 4.2% and widens the gap with the Renault Symbol for the 2nd place year-to-date at 14,259 units and 4.9% vs. 12,716 and 4.4%.
The Symbol is down to a paltry #17 this month – if anyone living in Turkey can explain the reason behind such a weak performance it would be much appreciated. Additional great performers this month include the Toyota Auris up 8 spots on June to #7, the Hyundai Accent Blue up 10 to #13 and the Hyundai ix35 up 6 to #24.
Previous month: Turkey June 2012: BMW 3 Series up to #10
One year ago: Turkey July 2011: Renault Symbol back to #1, Fiat Linea #2
