UK new car sales continue to buck the general European gloominess, up 3.5% year-on-year in June to a shiny 189,514 registrations, pushed by private demand up 10%. Halfway through the year, the market is now up 3% at 1,057,680 units. Passed by the Vauxhall Corsa last month, the Ford Fiesta reclaims the pole position in June with 9,063 sales and 4.8% and still leads the way by far year-to-date at 59,570 units and 5.6%, up 15% on 2011. The Vauxhall Corsa is down to #2 but still robust at 4.6% this month and 4.5% year-to-date thanks to 47,147 sales, up 22% on 2011.
The Ford Focus and VW Golf stay #3 and #4 respectively while the BMW 3 Series is back in the Top 5 for the third time in the last 12 months after August 2011 and April 2012 at #5 with 5,830 sales and 3.1%. For its part the Mini is back in the Top 10 for the first time since last December at #7 with 4,807 sales and 2.5%.
But the big event this month is the Fiat 500 ranking within the UK Top 10 for the third consecutive month at #10 with 3,324 units and 1.8%. It is the first time the Fiat 500 achieves this feat ever! Even the original 1956 Fiat 500 was never that successful.. Overall it is the Fiat 500′s 6th appearance among UK’s 10 favourite models overall after October 2009 (#10), December 2009 (#9), January 2010 (#10), April 2012 (#10) and May 2012 (#10).

Does anyone have any information for the Opel Ampera, Vauxhall Ampera or Chevy Volt sales in the UK and Europe?
The Qashqai sells well all over Europe, it is actually designed, engineered and built in the UK and it came 6th in the biggest Customer Satisfaction Survey, there have been many rubbish cars made in this country, the Qashqai is a good one. Good to see the Fiat 500 in the top 10 and the excellent new BMW 3 Series doing well (what recession)
Wow A Japanese in the Top 10!
