After an exhaustive April 2012 world round-up, I am now able to share with you the 20 models that sold the most across the globe in April. The Toyota Corolla is faithful to its worldwide pole position this month with 93,728 sales and a large margin over the #2. The ‘Prius threat’ seems to have gone away, with the hybrid sales down to 69,642 this month at #4. Note that in this figure are included 23,657 Prius c/Aqua and 14,362 Prius v. Instead the Ford Focus climbs onto the 2nd spot in April, helped by strong sales in China and the US notably, adding up to 81,337 units worldwide.

VW Jetta (US version)

The VW Jetta closes the podium with 79,603 units spread across a variety of different generation all around the world, from the 6th gen on sale in Europe and the US to the 2nd gen on sale in China. The Toyota Camry is up one spot on March to #5 with 66,500 sales and is followed by the VW Passat at 65,200 while the Hyundai Elantra is up 7 ranks to get back within the worldwide Top 10 at #7 with 62,734 sales.

Hyundai Solaris from Russia (aka Accent)

VW Golf and Ford Fiesta are down whereas the Hyundai Accent is up 6 spots to #10 and 58,022 units thanks to strong sales pretty much everywhere, from its native South Korea where it reached its highest ranking to cold but booming Russia where it ranked at an amazing 2nd spot under the name Solaris. The Chevrolet Cruze may be down 4 spots on March, it still sells a remarkable 57,782 units. Breaking records in India, the Suzuki Swift/Dzire is up to #17 with 47,954 sales.

With the Corolla being the best selling car in the world I’m surprised that Toyota wouldn’t up date it with a 6 speed automatic and and a 2.3L optional engine with direct injection. This is what is affecting their sales in North America.
The Corolla is not a bad car its just that all their competition has gotten better….for example the Hyundai Elantra and Ford Focus

      Hi Earl,
The new generation Corolla is due to be launched later this year so I would say they will make these updates on the new model…
      cheers
