For the first time in 28 months, the Argentinean new car market is down year-on-year at -4% to 56,980 registrations. Still an amazing performance for Argentina and probably the only country in the world in that position. The Top 5 is composed of familiar faces: the Chevrolet Classic leads at 4.7% share, followed by the VW Gol Trend (4.4%), Peugeot 207 Compact (3.7%), VW Gol Power (3.3%) and VW Suran (3.2%).

The Renault Clio has an excellent month at #6 with 1,565 sales and 2.7% but the best performer in February is the VW Fox up 5 spots to #7 to break into the Argentinean Top 10 for the very first time at 1,526 units and 2.7% share. It is now #10 year-to-date in 2012 vs. #24 in 2011… The Fox has been in the Brazilian Top 5 for years but hadn’t cracked the Argentinean market until now. Other good performers this month include the Toyota Hilux up to #11, the Chevrolet Prisma up 15 spots to #28 and the Chery QQ up 12 ranks to #54. The Chevrolet Sonic makes its very first appearance in the Argentinean ranking at #115 with 24 sales.
