Norway February 2012: Toyota Avensis leads, Nissan Leaf and Subaru XV impress UPDATED

Toyota Avensis

* NOW UPDATED with the Top 50 best-selling models:  click on the title to see! *

Like in January, car sales in Norway are up 4% in February at 10,925 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 21,763 units. Up from a shy 12th place last month, the Toyota Avensis takes the lead of the Norwegian market for the first time since January 2009 with 423 sales and 3.9% share, followed by the VW Golf at 3.5% and the VW Tiguan, on the podium for the third time in the last 5 months at 314 units and 2.9%.

Nissan Leaf

The Toyota Yaris continues on its new generation-fuelled good run in 4th place with 309 sales while the Skoda Octavia and Toyota Auris make their reappearance in the Top 10. Norway’s unique characteristic is the extraordinary success of the Nissan Leaf there. Improving on an already amazing month of January (#13), it is up to #11 this month with 214 sales and 2% share, and its regularity on top in this start of 2012 earns it a fantastic 9th position in the year-to-date ranking!

Subaru XV

Thanks to Alexander I can now share with you more detail about the Norwegian models ranking. The biggest performer further down is without a doubt the Subaru XV, up a massive 37 spots for only its 2nd month of sales to reach an outstanding 14th place with 192 units and 1.8%! Other good performers include the Hyundai i40 up 22 ranks to #23, the Mercedes B Class up 35 spots to #28 and the Kia Picanto up 53 ranks to #33.

    Do you know if they offer any incentives to buy electric cars?

    The Norwegian car market is characterized by high taxes on regular cars (based upon the parameters weight, power/the amount of kW and CO2/ g/km), thus a Golf 1.2TSI costs 264 900kr / 35 600€. Electric cars are completely tax free, even the common VAT (25 %) is waved. That’s why a Nissan Leaf is equally priced with a Golf (263 900kr/ 35 450 €). Electric cars are also exempted from toll charges, rides free on ferry’s and are even exempted from parking charges.

    Maybe you can imagine that the Leaf won’t have the hardest competition from regular cars, assumed the buyer could live with its moderate range ability.

    @tuga
    i don’t know, but i think so. i tried to understand something visiting the Nissan website in Norway. About Leaf, there it costs 263.900,00 Kr (35.000,00 €), a little more of the base version of Qashqai and cheaper than Qashqai+2 and another electric car like Peugeot i0n costs 199.400,00 Kr (27.000,00 €) when it Italy it’s sold for 35.000,00 €.
    I think that for these cars there is a important incentive.

    In Norway there is a good situation for the electric car. It’s starting with the Th!nk and now Nissan with its Leaf tries to sell a good number of electric car.
