Another weak month for car sales in Italy, down 19% year-on-year in February at 131,386 registrations, bringing the 2012 year-to-date total to 269,924 units, down 18%. Boosted by the new generation now spreading across the country fast, the Fiat Panda is in the lead for the 5th time in the last 6 months with 10,019 sales and 7.6% share. That’s nearly 3,000 sales and 2.4 percentage points above the Fiat Punto, the largest margin the Panda ever had on its big brother…
At 4,558 units and 3.5%, the Lancia Ypsilon manages to rank on the third step of the podium for the 6th time in the last 7 months, the best run the nameplate ever had in Italy… Excellent month for the VW Polo, up 5 spots on January to #4, its highest Italian ranking since October 2010, and for the Toyota Yaris, in the Top 10 for the second time in the last 3 months at #7, while the Alfa Romeo Giulietta stays very robust at #9.
