The Belarus car market bucks all trends this year and grows by 26% on 2010 to reach 16,275 registrations including Light Commercial Vehicles. A significant event in 2011: the best-selling model in the country is not coming from Russia but from France: the Renault Logan is up 6 spots and a massive 98% on 2010 to land in pole position with 630 sales and 3.9% share. Belarus is third country in the world with Romania and Moldova where the Logan is #1 in 2011.

Renault Sandero

In second position we find 2010′s best-seller, the GAZ Gazelle down 62% to 475 units and 2.9%, followed by the Lada Priora up 20% to 426 sales and 2.6%. Renault lodges another fantastic performance in 4th place: the Sandero is up 38 ranks and 405% year-on-year to reach 409 units sold and 2.5%. A second Lada climbs in the Top 5: the 34 year-old 4×4 (aka Niva) with 382 sales, up 22% on 2010, an impressive feat given its age.

VW Touareg

Other great performers in the Top 10 include the VW Polo sedan landing directly at #6, the Ford Focus up 311% to #9 and the Mitsubishi Outlander up 78% to #10. Below, the Hyundai Accent ranks directly #11, the VW Touareg has a brilliant year, up no less than 50 spots and 468% on 2010 to #13 with 284 sales, the VW Passat is up 157% to #16, the Kia Sportage up 213% to #17, the VW Golf up 177% to #18 and the Audi A4 up 194% to #19.

There are a few more newcomers in the Top 50, including the Nissan Pathfinder at #23, VW Tiguan at #24, Mitsubishi Pajero at #25, Volvo XC90 at #30, Nissan Qashqai at #40, Kia Venga at #43 and Kia Sorento at #45. As far as Chinese models are concerned, it’s a weak showing this year with the Great Wall Hover still leading the pack but down 16% to #102 with 32 sales, followed by the Chery Tiggo at #136 and 17 units. The Chery QQ sells 11 units and the Great Wall Florid 6.

Many expensive cars is in the list looking at low level of life in Belarus :) . Seems most of those cars were purchased by buyers from Russia. Because in 2011 Russia and Belarus created the custom union. And some cars were cheaper to buy from belarusian dealers than in Russia due to some fees.

The Russian Logans are not produced by Lada in his Togliatti’s factory, but by Avtoframos in Moscow, a Renault’s subsidiary which have no connection with AvtoVAZ.

  6. February 12th, 2012 at 01:25 | #7

Actually, it’s the Logan assembled by Avtovaz (Lada) in Russia.

Anyway, it’s sad to see that there’s no MG in the list.

The Logan from France ? Rather from Romania, despite his Renault logotype. :)

Great article Matt, I’m very happy to find informations about Belarus car market.

It’s the best level for the Lada Niva in the world : it is only 8th in Russia !

Notice the Iran Khodro Samand to #36… I didnt know it was always imported in Eastern Europe.

The VAZ-2114 should be added with the Lada Samara : it’s the 5-doors version of the Samara-2.
