New car sales up 17% at 11,910 units in December in Venezuela bring the final 2011 total to 120,689 registrations, down 4%. 85% of sales are models produced locally, vs. 87% in 2010. The Chevrolet Aveo is the best-selling model in the country for the 7th consecutive year with 16,921 sales and a fantastic 14% market share, up 15% on 2010 thanks to the new generation of the model on sale late last year.

Ford F350

The Ford Fiesta is up one spot to #2 in spite of sales down 1% to 10,716 units and 8.9% share, it was #1 for 3 months this year. The performer of the year is the huge Ford F350, up 34% and 7 spots to claw its way onto the Venezuelan podium with 5,560 sales and 4.6%, just above the Chevrolet Optra struggling at -62% with the arrival of the Chevrolet Cruze in September when it held an excellent 3rd place.

Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is up 2% and 3 spots to #5, while a few old designs got a second wind this year, possibly because of slashed prices: the Mitsubishi Lancer previous generation is up 92% and 11 ranks to #6, the Hyundai Getz 1st generation is also up 92% and 9 spots to #9 and the Hyundai Elantra from two generations ago is up 102% and 10 ranks to #10… Notice also the Chevrolet C-3500 up a massive 256% to #8.

In December, ‘institutional orders’ artificially shoot the Chevrolet Corsa to #1 with 2,000 sales while the Chevrolet Aveo is back in shape at 1,221 units and 10.3% share. The Chevrolet Cruze is back up to #6 and the Ford Ranger is up to #10.
