Norway Full Year 2011: VW Golf and Passat lead, Mitsubishi ASX at its best in the world UPDATED

Norwegian car sales are up 14% in December to 11,550 registrations, bringing the final 2011 total to 138,345 units, up 8% on 2010. In December, the Ford Focus (#2), Volvo V70 (#3) and VW Tiguan (#4) all improve their share vs. November while the Volvo V60 stays very strong at #7.

Over 2011, the VW Golf is the best-selling model in Norway for the fourth year running, however with 7,370 sales and 4.9%, it delivers its lowest year-end market share since 2008. The next 2 models have all fared extremely well this year: leader in 2006 and 2007, the VW Passat climbs back onto 2nd spot at 4,608 units and 3%, up 46% and leading the market in June, and the Ford Focus is up 77% and 9 spots to #3 with 4,437 sales and 3.8%, both thanks to their new generations.

Mitsubishi ASX

But the star of the year in Norway is without a doubt the Mitsubishi ASX, launched in mid-2010 and therefore enjoying its first full year of sales, and what a year! Ranking 4th at year-end with 4,194 units and 2.7%, the ASX peaked at #2 and 5.7%, only 38 units behind the Golf in April. Norway is by far the model’s best performing country in the world.

VW Tiguan

Other newcomers in the Top 20 include the Volvo V60 landing directly at #12 with 2,654 sales or 1.7% and peaking at #4 in May and the Peugeot 508 all new for 2011 and ranking #17 at 1,991 units. Notice also the VW Tiguan up 23% to #13, peaking at #3 in October and the first appearance in the Top 20 of two electric models: the Mitsubishi i-MiEV at #17 in September and the Nissan Leaf at #14 in November.

    Seat pulled out of the Norwegian market in 2006. In 2005 I think they sold only 100 cars, or the figure could even be under that!

    HVilKen ØKnininG?: De som hadde ventet at registreringstallene skulle fyke til himmels nå som slusene ble
    åpnet, den 1. oktober 1960, måtte vente lenge. I 1960, da
    de første ni månedene var rasjonert, ble det solgt 31.500
    biler. Det steg sakte, i 1964 passerte man 50.000, fra 1966
    lå man på 60-tallet, men i 1969 kom det et kjempehopp, til
    98.500. I september 1960 ble det nyregistrert 2.111 biler,
    i ”frigjøringsmåneden” oktober, kom det 4.494 nye på
    veien, men så var man nede på 2.000-tallet igjen helt til
    mars neste år. Da la takten seg en stund på rundt 5.000.

    Jesus, SEAT is not sold in the rich Norway. This marque vanished in 2009 of the South African and New Zealand market too due to poor sales, poor resale value and some model problems.
