Norway July 2026: Tesla down -97.1%, Xpeng up to record third place with 8.8% share

The Xpeng G6 is up to 5th place in Norway in July.

9,609 new cars hit Norwegian roads in July, a tiny +0.5% year-on-year improvement. The YTD tally remains in negative at -2.4% to 83,012. BEV sales gain 0.9% to 9,379 and 97.6% share vs. 97.2% a year ago in July 2025 which was a record at the time. They are up 1.2% year-to-date to 81,040 and 97.6% vs. 94.1% over the same period in 2025. PHEVs are off -44.5% to just 56 units and 0.6% share, HEVs up 60% to 96 units and 1% share, petrol off -40% to 15 and 0.2% share and diesel down -26.7% to 63 and 0.7% share.

The big event of the month is Tesla down -97.1% to just 24 sales and 0.2% share, due to the absence of fresh deliveries for the month. It ranks #34 but holds onto the YTD lead with sales up 3.9% to 17.4% share. Instead it’s Toyota (+223.1%) that takes the lead of the brands ranking with an excellent 13.1% hare, distancing Volkswagen (-11.7%) up two spots on last month to #2. The second big event of July is the record third place of Xpeng (+161%) with 843 sales and 8.8% share. It previous ranking was #6 and previous share was 5.3%, both reached last February. Mercedes (+41.6%) and BMW (+14.8%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10.

Model-wise, the Toyota bZ4X (+82.2%) takes the lead for the third time ever after October 2024 and January 2025. It ranks now #2 year-to-date with 4.4% share. The VW ID.4 (+18.9%) advances 9 spots on June to #2 while the new Toyota Urban Cruiser is up one rank to round out the podium. The Mercedes GLC lands at #4 as its EV version is folded into the GLC nameplate, and the Xpeng G6 (+31.8%) closes out the Top 5. The BMW iX3 (+22800%) surfs on the success of its new generation at #10 while the Xpeng G9 (+283.3%) and Ford Explorer (+17.2%) also make it into the July Top 10. The Toyota C-HR+ (#15) and Xpeng X9 (#16) are the next best-selling recent launches. The Tesla Model Y (-96.8%) ranks #81 and the Model 3 (-99%) at #179.
