Spain Full Year 2011: Seat Ibiza #1 for 9th time in lowest market in 18 years

The car market in Spain slows down its decline in December at -4% year-on-year with 66,580 registrations, still the weakest December since 1992. The final 2011 total is 809,948 units, down 18% on 2010 and 51% on 2005, Spain’s record year at 1,647,837 units. 2011 is the slowest year in Spain since the 796,746 units registered in 1993, 18 years ago…

Ford C-Max

Before we go into the Full Year 2011 in detail, December highlights include the Peugeot 308 up 10 spots to #6, the Ford C-Max up 5 ranks to #12, its best in years, the Hyundai ix35 breaking into the Top 20 for the very first time at #19, the Chevrolet Nuevo Aveo breaking into the Top 50 at #46 and the Range Rover Evoque up 14 spots to #60.

In 2011 the Seat Ibiza is the best-selling model in Spain for the third year in a row and the 9th time (add 198719961997, 1998200020032009 and 2010) in the history of the nameplate launched in 1984. It sells 31,105 units for a 3.8% share, down 22%. It was #1 for 9 months out of 12 this year. In fact the podium is unchanged on 2010: the Nissan Qashqai is #2 with 24,375 sales (-19%) and the Renault Megane #3 and 23,599 units (-20%).

Seat Leon

The Seat Leon loses ‘only’ 11% and is up 2 spots to #4, it ranked #1 for the very first time in June. The VW Golf is #5 again (-16%) ahead of the VW Polo at #6, up 8 ranks and 6% to 20,917 units and 2.6%, the only model in the Top 10 to see its sales increase year-on-year. The Ford Focus, #1 in August, is up 5 spots to #7.

There are only 9 other models with sales up in the Top 50: the Ford C-Max is up 72% and 31 spots to #24, the Dacia Duster up 33% and 23 ranks to #29, the Hyundai ix35 up 99% and 39 spots to #31, the Nissan Juke up 305% to #32, the Peugeot 3008 up 9% and 10 ranks to #34, the Kia Sportage up 170% and 47 spots to #35, the Toyota Verso up 4% to #44, the Audi A1 up 292% to #46 and the Mitsubishi ASX up 64% to #50.
