New car sales in Germany are up just 0.6% year-on-year in October at 258,253 registrations, with the 2011 year-to-date total still up a very healthy 10% at 2,659,989 units. The podium is unchanged vs. September with the VW Golf/Plus/Jetta leader at 8.5% share, followed by the VW Passat at 3.3% and the Mercedes C Class at 2.9%.

The VW Polo and Opel Astra are both up 2 spots at #4 and #5 respectively, recovering from a weak September. Still in excellent shape, the Mercedes A Class ranks 6th with 6,036 sales and 2.3% and is now #20 year-to-date. Audi A4 (+1), Mercedes E Class (+3) and Ford Fiesta (+3) also progress. While there are 3 Mercedes in the Top 8, there is now BMW in the Top 10 for the second month in a row, with the BMW 3 Series (#15) and 1 Series (#16) slowly ramping up thanks to the new generations now in dealerships.

Audi Q3

The performer of the month is the Audi A1: exactly one year after its launch and after a relatively shy showing throughout 2011, the mini Audi hits its highest position in Germany yet in October at #23 with 2,977 sales and 1.2%, also its highest share ever in the country and only its third time above 1%…

Notice also the Ford C-Max up 29 spots to #24, the Hyundai i10 up 32 spots to an excellent 28th place (1st foreign model this month if you consider Skoda and Seat local), the Renault Twingo up 10 ranks to #30, the BMW X3 strong again at #33 (vs. #46 year-to-date), the Peugeot 308 up 20 spots to #41 and the Nissan Micra up 7 ranks to #44.

Further down the ranking, the new generation Chevrolet Aveo is up 50 spots on September to #56, the new Kia Picanto is up 48 ranks to #77 and the Audi Q3 breaks into the German Top 100 for the first time at #96 with 642 sales and 0.2%. The Lamborghini Aventador sells its very first unit in Germany this month.
