In the midst of a Euro currency turmoil, the European car market holds itself pretty well, slowing down only by 1% both year-on-year in October and year-to-date at 1,044,552 and 11,467,336 registrations respectively. The VW Golf is the uncontested leader in Europe with 38,076 sales and 3.6% market share, its 18th consecutive month in the European pole position. The Golf is also #1 year-to-date at 413,156 units and has been the best-seller in Europe for 38 of the last 40 months, only ranking #2 in March ’09 and ’10…
In second place, the VW Polo is up 2 spots on September with 29,199 sales and 2.8%, also claiming back the #2 spot in the 2011 year-to-date ranking at 301,721 units, passing the Ford Fiesta, #3 both in October at 26,553 sales and year-to-date at 299,521 units. The Renault Clio, boosted by an exceptional performance in its native France, ranks 4th this month with 23,514 sales but is still #5 YTD behind the Opel Corsa. Notice the VW Passat up to an excellent 6th spot, its second-best score in the last 6 years…

I heard in China a sack of rice fell down …
@Josh
No Josh, I can assure you, you are not the only one.
Again with this “VW propaganda” thing? We’ll need to ask European customers to stop buying Volkswagens, or else we will never get over this…
@matgasnier
Thanks Matt. I thought I was the only one getting irritated by the constant whining.
@matgasnier
Ok Matt but please do not spoil such a nice blog with VW propaganda.
Cheers!
@Sith
You´ve got the point Sith!
I DO NOT BUY THEM because i hate this brands.
So unreliable.
@Pedro
I DO NOT BUY THEM. JUST DO NOT LIKE THEM.
I buy them
And a lot of other people, too.
@Sith
I AGREE WITH YOU SITH! I NEVER LIKED VW´S. THEIR DESIGN IS BORING AND PLAIN. THEIR CARS ARE JUST THE SAME AS RENAULT, FIAT, PEUGEOT, OPEL… THE ONLY THING THAT SAVE THEM IS THE GOOD AND WISE WORLD MARKET MARKETING THEY MADE AND THEY EXPANSION WORLDWIDE. MY FATHER HAD AN AUDI 80 THAT WAS A REAL CANCER! THE CAR PASSED MORE TIME IN THE GARAGE WITH PROBLEMS THAN IN HIS HANDS. THEN HE HAD A VW 1999 PASSAT; THE PROBLEMS WERE SO MANY THAT HE NEVER BOUGTH VW´S AGAIN. I HAD A 1994 SEAT IBIZA THAT NEVER STARTS IN COLD WEATHER AND BROKE DOWN ONCE WHEN I WAS CROSSING A TRAIN LINE!!!!!
Miguel – I think you made it clear that you don’t like VW, writing hundreds of comments about it on here for the last few months.
Can we move on?
Talk about something else?
Thanks
Matt
The currant vw design sucks.
I don´t know who buys them??
@Pedro
Weel, is normal. VW group is large and includes Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda, MAN, Lamborghini, Bentley, Sachs. They have to be the first. Unfair competition!!!!!
Sales Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Jeep in Europe: http://www.carsitaly.net/fiat-car-sales_europe.htm
@Miguel

Toyota dictator in Japan!
Fiat dictator in Italy!
Renault dictator in France!
etc. etc.
VW dictator! Prepotency lasts…
