USA September 2011: Trucks are back with a vengeance

The American car market is up 10% this month at 1,053,722 units and year-to-date at 9,518,172 registrations. Truck sales are up 16%: the Ford F-Series passes the 50,000 sales mark for only the third time in the last 12 months at 54,410 units (+15%) and the Chevrolet Silverado delivers its best 2011 volume at 43,698 sales (+36%).
But the best performance goes to the Dodge RAM: with 24,656 sales it ranks 4th just behind the Toyota Camry, its highest position since December 2007 and its highest volume since March 2008… The Nissan Altima stays 2nd best-selling passenger car at #5, the Ford Escape continues to impress at #6 (+41%), the Honda CR-V is back in the Top 10 at #7 and the Ford Fusion has another record month at #8. It is now #5 year-to-date ahead of the Chevrolet Cruze and Toyota Corolla!
The Nissan Versa new generation enjoys its first full month of sales and is up 20 spots on August to #19. Volkswagen launches the new generation Passat, landing directly at #98 with 3,176 sales and the new Beetle with 722 units sold for its first month. The electric car war continues: the Nissan Leaf is down 24% on August at 1,031 sales and the Chevrolet Volt is up 139% to 723 units.
