Italy Station Wagons July 2011: Opel Astra & VW Passat on top

70% of Opel Astras sold in Italy in July are station wagons

Italy is one of the last markets in the world (with Sweden and a couple of others) still very fond of station wagons, even more so when getting ready for Summer road trips… In an overall market down 11%, sales of station wagons are up 2% year-on-year at 12,331 units for a 8.9% market share vs. 7.8% one year ago. Year-to-date figures are down 1% at 99,436 units.

88% of VW Passats sold in Italy in July are station wagons

The Opel Astra dominates again with 1,530 units in July, bringing its station wagon share of total sales to 70% compared to just 61% year-to-date. The VW Passat comes 2nd this month with 1,180 sales and an insane 88% sw share, it is #4 year-to-date. The Ford Focus rounds out the podium at 1,098 units and 50% sw share.

59% of BMW 5 Series sold in Italy in July are station wagons

Good month for the Renault Megane, up 2 spots on June in 4th place with 1,061 units, followed by the Audi A4 (86%) and Opel Insignia (80%). The BMW 5 Series impresses in 7th position with 438 sales, with the Mercedes C Class ranking 8th at 427 units (24%).
