Malaysia July 2011: Facelifted Perodua MyVi takes off

Malaysian new car sales are down 6% year-on-year in July at 50,252 registrations and down 2% year-to-date at 347,455 units. After a couple of wobbly transition months, the new look Perodua MyVi reclaims the leadership of the Malaysian models ranking with no less than 8,447 sales for a whopping 16.8% market share, its best scores since 2009!

The Proton Saga drops one spot and 5 percentage points to 2nd place and 10.4% share but stays on top in the 2011 year-to-date ranking with 45,074 sales and 13% vs. 41,597 and 12% for the MyVi. The Perodua Viva ranks #3 at 9.1%, followed by the Proton Persona (8%) and Perodua Alza (6.7%).

Exceptional performance of the Honda Insight breaking into the Malaysian Top 10 for the very first time at #10 with 745 sales and 1.5% share. Further down the ranking, notice the VW Passat CC up a massive 55 spots on May to #40 with 160 sales, the new gen Kia Sportage up to #44 for its first full month of sales at 155 units and the Lexus CT200h up to 52nd place with 109 sales or 84% of Lexus’s sales in Malaysia this month!
