German consumers are buying new cars again: sales are up a massive 22% year-on-year in May at 304,543 registrations. VW continues to impress: for the 4th time in 5 months the brand monopolises the podium. The VW Golf/Plus/Jetta keeps the lead by far at 25,606 units and 8.4%.
The VW Passat ranks 2nd again with 10,075 sales and 3.3%. While this figure sounds rather unimpressive, it is in fact the first time since October 2009 (19 months!) and the Opel Corsa + Skoda Fabia that the #2 model sells over 10,000 units in a month in Germany…
Faithful to a 3rd place it has occupied all of this year, the VW Polo sees 9,796 units changing hands this month for a 3.2% market share, followed by the Opel Astra and Mercedes C Class, both improving their share to 2.9% and 2.6% respectively. Just as the 2012 generation (above) was revealed, the BMW 1 Series climbs back into the Top 10 for the first time since July 2010 at 5,483 units (1.8%).
Without counting Skoda and Seat models, there are only two ‘real’ foreigners in the Top 30: the Hyundai i30 at #25 and the Nissan Qashqai at #27. Notice the VW Caddy in the Top 20, the Audi A5 in the Top 30 and the Peugeot 308 up 20 spots to #39.
