The Icelandic new car market is slowly recovering from the 2008-09 crisis, with sales up 32% on 2009 to a still extremely shy 3,395 units. The new generation VW Polo is an instant hit in the country: it goes from outside the Top 60 in 2009 with just 6 units sold to the first place overall this year with 236 sales and 7% share… It is followed by the Suzuki Grand Vitara up one spot and 75% to 201 units and 5.9% and the Toyota Yaris up 4 ranks and 203% to 194 sales and 5.7%.

There are a couple more impressive newcomers within this year’s completely reshuffled Top 10: the Skoda Octavia is up 44 spots to #4 with 174 units and 5.1%, the Hyundai i30 is up 10 to #5 with 173 sales, the Toyota Land Cruiser 150 is up from outside the Top 60 to #7 with 122 units, the Chevrolet Spark lands directly at #8 with 99 sales while the VW Golf is up 17 ranks to #10. Leader in 2009, the Suzuki Swift is up just 9% but down 5 spots to #6.
