UK September 2010
Twice a year, new car plates are released in the UK which results in exceptionally high sales numbers, in March and September. This September is 9% below 2009 at 335,246 sales but the year-to-date numbers are still up 8% at 1,635,659 sales.
The Ford Fiesta stays ahead with more than 19,000 units sold this month and 5.7% market share (vs. 5.3% over 2010). Below, the ranking gets a bit of a shake. Given this month’s high sales level, September’s positions affect the year-to-date positions greatly. The Ford Focus has performed poorly this month with only 3% of the market and drops 2 spots in the year-to-date ranking to 4th at 3.9%. The Vauxhall Astra, 3rd in September, jumps 2nd in 2010, and the Vauxhall Corsa, 2nd in September, climbs 3rd in 2010.

The other strong performance of the month is the 10th spot occupied by the BMW 1-Series with 1.8% market share.
