New car sales in Romania break a record for the third consecutive year thanks to volumes up 12.7% to 283.238 units. Despite the recent arrival of the Logan, Dacia (-6.4%) drops to 37.4% share, the lowest since we started tracking Romania in 1995 after hitting a high of 87.6% in 1997. Renault (+33.7%) outpaces the market again to cross the 10% share milestone for the first time in history at 11.3%, leaving Daewoo (+12.6%) in the dust at a stable 8.2%. Skoda (+28.5%), Volkswagen (+14.1%), Peugeot (+23.7%) and Ford (+57.8%) keep the Top 7 brands unchanged on 2005 while Opel (+70.2%) posts the largest gain in the Top 10.
The launch of diesel versions in September 2005 enables the Dacia Logan to reach even higher ground in its native market with a 44% share of passenger car sales in May. It hits 42.4% halfway through 2006, slightly below the 43.2% reached over the same period in 2005, and ends the year at 33.7% of overall sales with just above 95.000 sales which would end up being its highest ever volume. APIA has this volume above 96.000 units. The Renault Clio (+80.3%) soars to #2, the Daewoo Matiz (+21.5%) remains at #3, the Skoda Octavia (+13.3%) is up one to #4 while the Dacia Pickup (-47.4%) drops 3 to #5.
