Hungary 2004: Suzuki Ignis in pole position

New car sales in Hungary are stable in 2004 at 208.044 units (-0.2%) but market leader Suzuki sinks 15% to 16.3% share and #2 Opel is down 11% to 24.147 while Renault skids 2% to 9.3%. In contrast, the next four carmakers all gain ground, led by Skoda (+12%) above Volkswagen (+6%), Chevrolet aka Daewoo (+26%) and Ford (+34%). Lancia (+189%), Subaru (+138%), Kia (+80%), Smart (+49%), Porsche (+33%), Honda (+26%) and Mazda (+20%) impress, Dacia returns at #21 and Lexus lands at #29.
Building on an excellent start in 2003, the locally produced Suzuki Ignis becomes the best-selling car in Hungary in 2004 thanks to sales up 58% year-on-year to 19,005 units, still to this date the highest volume achieved in Hungary by any model in a single year. The Opel Astra is up 12% to grab the 2nd spot ahead of the Skoda Fabia (+4%) down 2 spots to #3. The Chevrolet Kalos, ex-Daewoo, is up 22% and 4 ranks to #4, followed by the Opel Corsa (-20%), Renault Megane (+5%) and VW Polo (-14%).
