South Korea 2002: Samsung SM5 up to #2 at 100,777 sales

The Hyundai Sonata is the most popular model in South Korea again in 2002 but its sales are down 3% on 2001 to 109,293 and it is now threatened by the Samsung SM5, up a spectacular 43% to pass the 100,000 annual sales mark for the very first time at 100,777 units. The Hyundai Avante XD rounds up the podium with 95,794 sales, up 12% year-on-year, while the Hyundai Santa Fe continues to progress, up a further 2 spots and 30% to #4 and 70,288 units.

Kia Sorento

Bothe the Hyundai Grandeur XG and Kia Carens are up 2 ranks this year to #6 and #7 respectively, and the best performing newcomer is by far the Kia Sorento, landing directly at #8 with 52,963 sales. The SsangYong Rexton is up a huge 320% and 16 spots to break into the year-end Top 10 for the first time at #10 and the 2nd time in 3 years for SsangYong after the Musso ranked #9 in 2000. Other newcomers include the Hyundai Click (aka Getz) at #21, the Daewoo Kalos at #22 and the Samsung SM3 at #24.
