France 1987: Renault Supercinq & Peugeot 205 fight it out

New record for the French car market: up 10% year-on-year it reaches 2,106,529 registrations, its highest annual volume ever. 1987 is the year the fight for the first place between the Renault Supercinq and the Peugeot 205 was the closest. The Renault Supercinq finished the year #1 again with 239,660 sales and 11.4% share, peaking at 12.7% in October and December and holding the #1 spot 5 times out of 12.

Peugeot 205

The Peugeot 205 is only 0.5% share or 9,000 units below, the closest gap between the two models. It was #1 at half-year but ends up 1987 in 2nd place with 230,318 sales and 10.9% share, holding the #1 spot 7 times out of 12, peaking at 12.9% in August. Very solid first full year of sales for the Renault 21 at #3 and 176,605 units for a 8.4%, it was #3 every single month of the year.

Peugeot 309

Below the Citroen BX at 5.7% share, the Peugeot 309 delivers its best year in 5th place with 114,802 sales and 5.4%, hitting its highest share ever in March at 7.5%. The Citroen AX breaks into the Top 10 for its first full year of sales at #7 and 91,163 units (4.7%), it ranked 4th in November and December.

The Fiat Uno is now the best-selling foreign model in France at #9 with 60,189 sales and 2.9%, up 37% year-on-year. It is followed by the VW Golf (+35%), Opel Corsa (+12%), Ford Fiesta (+7%) and Escort (+14%). The best-selling Japanese model is the Mazda 323 at #37 with 9,730 sales (+18%).

    Hello Mat,

    Et il y a quelques autres chiffres d’autres modèles trouvés dans un magazine hors série “toutes les voitures du monde 88/89″ l’automobile magazine:

    2CV: 10 890
    Axel : 2650
    CX: 15 565

    voilà! Attention les chiffres sont arrondis, dommage… tu peux mettre “(e)” et sans le rang…
