Netherlands Full Year 2025: Skoda Elroq and Kia EV3 take the lead

The Skoda Elroq is #1 in the Netherlands for its first year in market.

388,024 new cars found a buyer in the Netherlands in 2025, a limited +1.7% improvement. December (+31.9%) single handedly tilted the overall market into positive territory. HEVs amount to 175,779 sales for a 45.3% market share (42% in 2024), BEVs are up to 40.2% share thanks to 156,139 sales (34.6% in 2024), petrol is down to 50,753 units and 13.1% share (21.8% last year), diesel only accounts for 1% of the market at 3,993 units and LPG is at 0.4% and 1,359 sales.

Kia (+8.6%) remains the most popular carmaker with an improved 9.8% share. Volkswagen (+18.1%), #1 in 2023 but down to #5 in 2024, bounces back up to #2 and 8.2% share, over one percentage point above its year-ago level. Skoda (+29.5%) does even better and climbs from #6 to #3, followed by a struggling Toyota (-9.5%). Renault (+31%) jumps to #5 ahead of BMW (+4.8%). Audi (+22.1%) and Ford (+18%) also shine below whereas Tesla (-44.3%) collapses to #10 and 4.3% share vs. 7.9% a year ago.

Model-wise, strikingly two new launches take the lead. The Skoda Elroq strikes the strongest, totalling almost 12,000 sales. It was #1 in May, October and November. The Kia EV3 lands at #2, topping the charts from January to April; it was #1 year-to-date up to end November. Leader for the past two years, the Tesla Model Y (-43.4%) sinks to #3 with just 2.8% share vs. 5% in 2024. The Toyota Yaris Cross (+8.2%) and Kia Picanto (+5.8%) are the only two additional gainers in the Top 10 while the Tesla Model 3 (-45.5%), Kia Niro (-42.3%) and Volvo EX/XC40 (-37.1%) all get hammered. Finally, notice the Renault 5 (+1314.7%) up to #14 and inside the Top 10 in November and December.
