New car sales in Romania advance 3.8% year-on-year in 2025 to 156,883, the highest annual volume since pre-pandemic 2019 (161,562). Local behemoth Dacia almost matches its home market at +2.9% to a slightly reduced 29.2% share. Toyota (+13.5%) improves to 9.3% while Renault (+12%) is up two spots to land on the third step of the podium, overtaking Skoda (+6.5%) and Hyundai (-8.9%) down to #6. Volkswagen (-2.2%) is up one rank to #5. Ford (+13.1%) and BMW (+6.8%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, MG surges 64.5% to #11, Citroen is up 47.1% to #18, Cupra up 30.4% to #19 and BYD up 44900% to #23, peaking at #12 with 1.9% share in December.
Model-wise, the Dacia Logan (+2.2%) scores a 21st consecutive annual win (no interruption since 2005) but sees its share thaw slightly to 9.8%. It only topped the monthly charts 6 times, its lowest ever alongside 2022. The Dacia Duster (+1.5%) held onto the YTD top spot from February to August and won 6 months, its highest ever, including December. In fact, 2025 eventuated the same as 2024: the Duster dominant over the first half with the Logan reclaiming the top spot in the second half. Meanwhile the Dacia Sandero (-2.1%) stays in third place with 5.2% share. Partly thanks to a bumper December result when it ranked #3, the Renault Clio (+100.2%) doubles its sales and gains 7 spots to #4. The Toyota Corolla (+25%) is up one to #5 and the Skoda Octavia (+10.9%) down two to #6 despite a solid gain. The Dacia Bigster is the best-selling 2025 launch, landing directly at #8. It peaked at #4 in October and November.
