India Full Year 2025: Maruti Suzuki DZire lodges first win since 2018

Indian new light vehicle sales break their record again in 2025 (for the 4th straight year), up 5.7% to 4,530,375, only 35,000 sales off Japan (4,575,777) in the battle for third car market in the world. The all time monthly volume record was beaten in January (401,538) and smashed in October (466,814). Maruti Suzuki (+2.9%) breaks its all time high annual volume at over 1.8 million but sees its share drop by one percentage point from 40.9% to 39.9%. There is a very rare reshuffle in the following three spots: Mahindra (+18.4%) ascends to 2nd place (+2) with a record volume ahead of Tata (+2.9%), also breaking its record volume. Hyundai (-5.5%) is relegated to 4th position, the first time since 2008 it is below #2. At #5, Toyota (+17.1%) is also at an all time high above 350,000 sales. Skoda (+106.7%) is pushed up to new heights by the new Kylaq while MG (+15.3%) also scores a best ever volume.

Over in the models charts, the Maruti Suzuki DZire (+27.7%) takes advantage of a new generation to soar 7 spots on last year to the pole position. This is the 2nd time the DZire is #1 in India after 2018. It ranked #1 in May and July and #2 from August to November. The Hyundai Creta (+7.6%) is up two ranks to #2 with over 200,000 sales, a new record for the nameplate. It ranked #1 in March, April and June. The Tata Nexon (+24.1%) does even better, also passing the 200,000 unit mark for the first time and was #1 from September to November. The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (+1.8%, #1 in January) and Ertiga (+1%, #1 in August) round out the Top 5. Other monthly winners are the Maruti Suzuki Fronx (February) and Baleno (December). 19 models sell more than 100,000 units, a record.
