  1. Prices here in CZ.
    Basic Sandero 14000€
    Basic Swift 15200€
Swift has in basic airco and rear parking camera. 5 year free assintance service. You can have it in 4X4 version.
Suzuki has incredible value for money. Dacia has better in marketing and big name in Europe. Suzuki is modest. I consider it like Tesla. Tesla is brand with poor marketing too. It’s like they don’t even want to sell. No bombastic shows. If I compare it to the current campaign for the new RAV4 and previous Corolla Cross, Tesla and Suzuki are nothing.

  2. @T

In my country in southern Europe, the same thing happens. Importing used cars from Germany is typical of poor countries with low purchasing power. These cars are often full of rust and have fake mileage. In my country, people buy German cars not because they are better (german cars are in fact amongst the worst then it comes to reliability), but because they have a better brand image and therefore cause more envy among their neighbors. It’s stupid, I know, but that’s how people’s mentality works.

    1. @BryanR I totally agree with you. I have never had a German car myself, used to drive a Hyundai, Honda and now a Suzuki, but as you said that’s local mentality.

  3. Corolla sedan was popular here without hybrid. Now with hybrid +4.000€. Everybody buying TS. I haven’t seen Corolla single hatch yet. Are they in Bulgaria?
Mazda is doing quite well. I would expect more from Suzuki in BG.
Bulgaria will have € from January. I think it will be great for price comparison on the European market.

    1. There are Corolla hatchbacks, but much less than sedans and station wagons. Many taxi companies also use Suzuki Swace, rebadged Corolla station wagon.
Corolla sedan is cheaper than some Dacia models, so why not. Octavias are also everywhere. And more often I see Chinese SUVs, mainly DongFeng.

    2. The new car market doesn’t represent the local car landscape as a whole. Every year about 400 000 newly imported second hand cars from Western Europe are registered for the first time in BG. There are about 3.3 million cars in the country, as over 50% are 20+ years old (nobody knows how many are 30+ yo), about 30% are between 15-20 years old and only 5% are between 0 and 5 years old, considered new.
On the second hand market locals prefer German brands, while Italian brands, French brands and Ford are considered the lowest quality. About 550 000 are registered Volkswagens, the most popular brand, followed by Mercedes, Audi and BMW, while Opel is loosing its popularity, which it had during the 1990’s and early 2000’s.
Brands, which gain most popularity are Skoda, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai and Kia, while brands which loose popularity fastest are Opel, Ford, Renault, Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat, Seat and Alfa Romeo.
Brands like Nissan, Mazda, Suzuki, Subaru and Mitsubishi have flat results, neither gaining numbers, nor loosing.
Dacia is gaining popularity, but very slow, because it used to be mainly LCV brand with huge number of Dokker registered few years ago. Now these old Dokkers are replaced slowly by cars like Duster and Sandero. That’s why Dacia is loosing numbers by Dokkers on one hand and gaining numbers by Sandero and Duster on the other, but as a whole it’s popularity as a % of all vehicles in BG is almost unchanged.

PS: Pavel, you asked me about Suzuki. Suzuki was popular only when old Liana model was on the market. Liana was a very popular taxi model 20 years ago, but not anymore.

      1. Thanks for the detailed review. Beautiful country.
I understand people buying used cars. Things have moved a lot in Czechia. Used cars in Germany have become much more expensive, unless they are complete scrap. It’s worth buying new or taking something after a year’s lease. It’s only worth importing more expensive cars or campers. Now used Teslas are being imported from Norway and from the Netherlands. It will be similar in Bulgaria soon.
I asked because Suzuki offers excellent quality for the price of Dacia and it should be higher in BG and elsewhere.

    3. I just checked, the cheapest Suzuki in BG is Swift 2WD Hybrid GL trim level at 18 912 euro, while the cheapest Dacias is Sandero at 14 311 euro. For 1000 euro over Swift’s price you can have a basic Corolla sedan.
