Germany October 2025: Skoda breaks share record, BMW 5 Series, Audi A5 impress
BMW 5 Series sales are up 78.5% year-on-year in October.
It’s another very solid month for new car sales in Germany, up 7.8% year-on-year in October to 250,133. This result tilts the year-to-date volume into positive territory at +0.5% to 2,360,481. Notably, BEV sales soar 47.7% to 52,425 and 21% share vs. 15.3% a year ago and are up 39.4% YTD to 434,627 and 18.4% share vs. 13.3% over the same period in 2024.
As usual Volkswagen (+9.9%) leads the way with 19.3% and somewhat boringly the Top 8 is identical to YTD. In the lot, BMW (+24.3%), Skoda (+23.6%), Audi (+15.5%) and Hyundai (+15.2%), Ford (+6.1%) and Mercedes (+4.3%) are more discreet but still outpace the market while Opel (+0.8%) is barely in positive. Note Skoda breaks its share record at 8.9%, passing the 8.8% it held last July. Toyota (-20%) and Seat (-0.4%) disappoint in the remainder of the Top 10. Cupra (+33.6%) continues to progress at #11 while BYD (+866.3%) breaks into the Top 20 for the first time at #20 and reaches a record volume. The Chinese carmaker outsells Tesla 5 to 1 and is only 424 sales below YTD.
Model-wise, the VW Golf (+7.2%) stays on top above the VW T-Roc (+16.8%), still benefiting from promotions on the outgoing generation, and a sinking VW Tiguan (-29.8%). The Opel Corsa (-10.8%) is also in difficulty but manages a solid 4th place like year-to-date. The Skoda Octavia (+10.1%) is back in shape at #5 ahead of the BMW X1 (+5.4%) back up 30 spots on last month but with limited year-on-year growth. The BMW 5 Series (+78.5%) storms into the Top 10 to lodge its best ranking so far this year at #7. The Audi A5 (+315.8%) is also euphoric at #10 vs. #31 year-to-date and #80 over the Full Year 2024.
