Europe October 2025: Sales up 4.9%, BEVs up 32.9%, Skoda Elroq & Renault 5 break records
The Renault 5 is up to a record #25 in Europe in October.

Preliminary data from ACEA has the European new car market (EU+EFTA+UK) up 4.9% year-on-year in October to 1,091,904 units. The year-to-date tally is now up 1.9% to 11,020,514. Spain (+15.9%) remains the best performer of the Top 5, followed by Germany (+7.8%), France (+2.9%), the UK (+0.5%) and Italy (-0.5%). Other great performers include Lithuania (+41.3%), Bulgaria (+27.4%), Latvia (+18.4%) and Croatia (+17.3%). Through October, Spain is up 14.9%, the UK up 3.9%, Germany up 0.5%, Italy down -2.6% and France off -5.4%.
This month, BEV sales surge 32.9% year-on-year to 225,399 and 20.6% share vs. 16.3% in October 2024. Year-to-date BEV volumes are up 26.2% to 2,022,173 and 18.4% share vs. 14.8% over the same period in 2024. The biggest markets for BEVs are Germany (52,435, +47.7%), the UK (36,830, +23.6%), France (34,108, +63.2%), the Netherlands (13,968, +27.4%), Belgium (12,360, -3%), Denmark (11,405, +29.3%) and Norway (10,852, -0.1%).
The Skoda Elroq is inside the European Top 20 for the first time in October.
In the OEM charts, the Volkswagen Group (+6.8%) outpaces the market to over 300,000 sales, followed by Stellantis (+4.5%) and the Renault Group (+11.1%). The BMW Group (+6.4%) leapfrogs past Hyundai-Kia (-3.4%) and the Toyota Group (-11.9%) to land in 4th place. The Geely Group (+2.2%) stays at #9 while SAIC (+35.3%) delivers the biggest gain in the Top 10.
Brand-wise, Volkswagen (+5.3%) is sturdy in first place, while Skoda (+10%) excels and climbs back up to #2, overtaking Toyota (-11.7%) in difficulty. BMW (+2.9%) stays at #4 while Renault (+13.1%) passes Mercedes (-0.9%) to complete the Top 5. Dacia (+9.6%) and Audi (+6.1%) also post satisfying gains below, whereas Peugeot (-10.1%) struggles. Further down, notice MG (+35.5%), Citroen (+32%), Cupra (+26.4%), Fiat (+15.4%) and Opel (+12.2%) but BYD (+208.1%) remains the best performer at #20 with 17,514 sales vs. just 7.731 for Tesla (-45%).
The Dacia Sandero (-5.8%) reclaims the top spot it holds year-to-date for the first time since last February and despite slowing down year-on-year. The VW T-Roc (+26.8%) continues to be boosted by rebates on the outgoing generation (up to 35% in some markets) and climbs back up two spots on September to #2. The Renault Clio (-0.5%) is stable but pushed down to #3 ahead of the VW Golf (-1.2%) and Toyota Yaris Cross (-2.2%). The VW Tiguan (-21.1%) and Peugeot 208 (-25.2%) are hit full frontal below. Reversely the Citroen C3 (+32.3%) and Peugeot 2008 (+25.9%) are in great shape. The Skoda Elroq breaks into the Top 20 at #17 and the Renault 5 spectacularly cracks the Top 50 for the first time, landing directly at #25, with 47% of its volume coming from France.
