Colombia August 2025: BYD breaks records

The Yuan Up helps BYD reach record levels in August.

6th straight double digit year-on-year gain for the Colombian new light vehicle market at +29.1% to 21,327 units in August. This way, the year-to-date tally is up 27% to 150,263. Toyota (+34.2%) reclaims the top spot in the brands ranking at 11.8% share while Renault (+16.4%) stays in 2nd place at 11.4%. Kia (+11.7%) disappoints and falls to #3 with 11.1% share but remains in the YTD lead with 13.1% of the market. Mazda (+31.5%) beats the market at #4 but the performer of the month is BYD (+154.2%) up to a record #8 with record volume and share also. Hyundai (+51.2%) and Volkswagen (+30%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10. Chinese brands monopolise the biggest upticks: Chery is up 307.7%,  Changan-Deepal up 214.6%, Dongfeng up 210.9%, MG up 200% and JMC up 115.6%.

Over in the models charts, the Toyota Corolla Cross (+93.5%) doubles its sales year-on-year to sign a 4th consecutive win and 6th top spot this year. It is a distant leader year-to-date. The Mazda CX-30 (+10.2%) and Kia K3 (+34%) exchange ranks vs. last month to #2 and #3 respectively. The Mazda2 (+83.5%) soars five spots on July to #4, distancing the Chevrolet Onix (+66.8%) and Renault Duster (-4.5%). The BYD Yuan Up is up four ranks to #8 with the Toyota Corolla Sedan (+563.3%) and Prado (+152.7%) rounding out the Top 10 in spectacular fashion.
