Sweden August 2025: Toyota up 35%, Tesla down -84.4%
Tesla Model Y sales are down -87.2% in August.
New car sales in Sweden grow 5.9% year-on-year in August to 20,168 units. This leads to a year-to-date tally up 6.7% to 178,828. Rechargeable cars hold 59% of the market vs. 56% in August 2024. In the detail, BEVs edge down -0.3% to 6,772 and 33.6% share vs. 35.7% a year ago but PHEVs soar 32.9% to 5,134 and 25.5% share vs. 20.3% in August 2024. Usually very weak in August, Volvo (+8%) manages to stay atop its home charts with 13.5% share, distancing Volkswagen (+19.3%) at 13%. Toyota (+35%) rallies back up three spots on last month to #3, followed by Kia (+19.3%) and BMW (+42.7%) both also in outstanding shape. Standing at a record #3 in July, Skoda (+16.1%) drops to #6 this month but still delivers a strong YoY performance. Hyundai (+177.7%), Cupra (+29.3%), Ford (+27.8%) and Polestar (+18.9%) also manage splendid results further down the ranking. Tesla is down a ghastly -84.4% to #18 and ranks #12 year-to-date vs. #3 over the Full Year 2024.
Over in the models charts, the Volvo XC60 (+68.2%) surges ahead to remain ultra dominant even if its 4.3% share pales in comparison with the 6.4% it holds year-to-date. The Volvo EX/XC40 (+10.3%) is up one spot to #2, followed by three Toyotas in great shape: the RAV4 is up 40.7% to #3 vs. #12 year-to-date, the Corolla Cross is up 103.7% to #4 vs. #24 YTD and the Yaris Cross is up 31.2% to #5 vs. #19 YTD. The VW ID.7 (+79.3%) follows in 6th place. The new Kia EV3 confirms its status of instant blockbuster at #7, a ranking it also holds YTD. The Skoda Kodiaq (+28%) continues to evolve largely above a year ago and ranks #2 YTD where it is up 129.9%. Leader a year ago, the Tesla Model Y is off -87.2% to #49.
