Norway August 2025: BEVs at 96.9% share, Ford (+153.3%), Mercedes (+74.2%) impress
The Explorer helps Ford surge +153.3%
The Norwegian new car market sports a fantastic +25.2% YoY lift in August to 13,915 units, bringing the YTD tally up 25.67% to 98,996. BEV sales are up 28.6% to 13,482 and 96.9% share vs. 94.3% in August 2024 which was a record at the time. This is the second highest BEV share behind the 97.2% reached just last month. They are up 36.6% year-to-date to 93,524 and 94.5% share vs. 86.8% over the same period in 2024. Meanwhile PHEVs are up 31.1% to 211, HEVs down -79.1% to 52, petrol down to 32 and diesel down to 138.
Tesla (+21.3%) is back to the pole position it holds YTD with 21.7% of the market vs. 17.1% so far this year. Volkswagen (+66.7%) is relegated to 2nd place but soars YoY while Skoda (+8.2%) repeats at #3 despite trailing the market. Volvo (-31.4%) and BMW (-1.9%) struggle and round out the Top 5. Ford (+153.3%) and Mercedes (+74.2%) impress just as Hyundai (+26.2%) matches the market and Toyota (-40%) freefalls. BYD (+218.1%) surges year-on-year but slips outside the Top 10 at #11.
Model-wise, the Tesla Model Y (+16.6%) reaches 17.7% share vs. 14.3% year-to-date, wit the VW ID.4 (+12.3%) up onwards spot on July to #2. The Tesla Model 3 (+50.4%) is up 29 ranks on last month to #3 with 4% share vs. 2.7% so far this year. The Skoda Enyaq (-30.4%) is in trouble YoY but still manages a 4th place vs. #7 year-to-date. The VW ID.3 (+40.1%) and ID.7 (+316.2%) follow and both beat the market. The Skoda Elroq is the best-selling recent launch at #7 ahead of the BYD Sealion 7 at #10. The Ford Explorer (+2361.5%) is pushed by the new model to #12.
