Denmark August 2025: Cupra breaks share record at 8.1%, places Formentor and Tavascan in Top 5

The new Tavascan helps lift Cupra to a record 8.1% share

The Danish new car market edges up 1.4% year-on-year in August to 13,030 units, leading to a year-to-date volume up 5.1% to 116,395. Volkswagen (-15.7%) stays in the lead of the brands ranking despite a hefty YoY loss, it distances a soaring Skoda (+38%). Mercedes (+2.7%) is more subdued in third place, up two on July. In 4th place Cupra (+432.3%) continues to stun, breaking its share record to 8.1%. In comparison sister brand Seat is off -93.5% to #35 and 0.1% share! Renault (+29.1%) and BMW (+20.3%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10 but Tesla (-41.8%) hits a wall, as do Toyota (-28.2%) and Audi (-17.6%). New launch Navor, selling DFSK models, is up to #17 with a record 1.6% share.

Model-wise, the new Skoda Elroq leads the way for the 5th consecutive month, cementing its YTD lead. The VW ID.4 (+12.5%) ranks at its usual 2nd place which it also holds year-to-date. Leader a year ago, the Skoda Enyaq (-16.3%) still manages a fantastic third position with 4.3% share vs. 2.9% so far the year. Cupra brilliantly places two models inside the Top 5: the Formentor is up 505.9% YoY and 9 spots on last month to #4 while the new Tavascan is up 10 ranks to #5. Leader over the Full Year 2024, the Tesla Model Y dives -46.5% and ranks 6th for the month, 3rd year-to-date. Excellent score also by the BMW iX1 (+81%) at #8. The other newcomers near the top of the ranking are the Kia EV3 at #10 and the Renault 5 at #11.

  1. So people in south Europe don‘t buy german or american Brands. They buy more simple and cheap cars like Dacia, Toyota, Renault.

  2. The Cuprafication of the Kingdom of Denmark is phenomenal.
But in August, there surely must have been Summer Sale: “Buy One, Have Three”

  3. Regarding Fiat, it’s insane to think that the European brand most specialized in small cars is practically non-existent in the european market that has the largest share of small cars. How is it possible?

      1. That’s really strange, more Chevrolet Corvettes than Land Rovers, Smarts, Alfa Romeo, Mitsubishi, Subarus or Jeeps combined. The swedish market is strange.

      2. Trump will be happy. EU reduces tariffs on US cars to 0. Maybe there will be more Corvettes in the future.
Maybe Tesla will release the Model S for Europe again. Lack of cheaper supercars.

    1. Highly likely the ‘Latin’ brands do not prioritize Scandinavia although Denmark used to be fond of PSA models.
One exception: fiery and feisty Cupra.
But in Finland, Norway and Sweden the French and Italian brands are rare as hen’s teeth. Read scarce.

      1. French and Italian brands were very popular in Sweden from the 50’s through the 1990’s. The only French one that still performs well here is Peugeot but now with the Renault 5 launched and the 4 released this month it looks like a comeback here for Renault.
Fiat used to be in the Top 10 during the 60’s and 70’s.

      2. I think it’s the opposite, Scandinavian countries don’t like Latin brands or British brands. They mainly buy German or American brands.
