Belgium August 2025: BMW back to #1, BYD (+90.6%), Hyundai (+83.1%) stand out

BYD is up to a record 18th place in Belgium in August.

A mediocre month for new car sales in Belgium at -10.9% year-on-year in August to 26,120 units. This is a particularly weak result given August 2024 was already down -20.3% on the year prior. The year-to-date volume stands at a paltry 292.349 units, off -10% or 32,500 sales over the same period in 2024. BMW (-26.5%) reclaims the top spot it holds year-to-date despite a daunting year-on-year loss. Note at the time the German carmaker broke its share record at 13.8%. Volkswagen (-20.8%) is also struggling in 2nd place and holds 9% of the market vs. 9.6% so far this year. Mercedes (-10.2%) and Audi (-3.4%) follow like they did in July, with Renault (-11.8%) completing the Top 5. Just below, Dacia (+13.3%) and Skoda (+5.7%) go against the negative trend with upticks but are the only Top 12 members in positive. Further down, BYD (+90.6%) advances to a record #18, with Hyundai (+83.1%), Suzuki (+63.1%), Nissan (+36.8%), Citroen (+35.8%) and Opel (+25.3%) all standing out.
