Iceland July 2025: Sales rally up 56.8%, BYD breaks records, places Sealion 7 at #3

The BYD Sealion 7 is the third best-selling vehicle in Iceland in July.

1,311 new cars hit Icelandic roads in July, a fantastic 56.8% year-on-year surge. Keep in mind July 2024 was off -34% on the year prior. The year-to-date volume is now up 27.3% to 9,149. Kia (+31.9%) remains the favourite carmaker in Iceland with 11.4% share, even if this is well below the 17.9% it commands year-to-date. Toyota (-0.8%) underperforms at 9.6% share vs. 12% through July. Dacia (+408.3%) is back up to #3, overtaking Tesla (+220.7%). BYD (+104.9%) rounds out the Top 5 at #5 and breaks all records at 84 sales and 6.4% share. Suzuki (+6400%!), Renault (+271.4%), Land Rover (+185%) and Hyundai (+97.6%) all manage euphoric scores in the remainder of the Top 10. Up to #10 last month, Polestar disappears from the ranking altogether in July.

Over in the models charts, the Dacia Duster takes the lead for the first time since June 2024 at 7.9% share vs. 5.5% YTD. Down one spot on June to #2, the Tesla Model Y overtakes the Kia Sportage (down to #14 this month) to snap the YTD pole position. The BYD Sealion 7 is the main engine behind the brand’s success this month and makes its first appearance inside the Top 30, directly landing at #3. Below a resurgent Kia EV3 at #4 (+12), the Renault Trafic also comes out of nowhere to #5 vs. #26 so far this year. Great performances also by the Land Rover Defender (#7), Xpeng G6 (#11) and Volvo EX30 (#16).
