Russia June 2025: Market off -27.6%, Changan, Belgee and Solaris hit records
The Uni-S pushes Changan to a record 4th place in June.
The Russian new car market continues to crater in June, enduring a 5th consecutive double-digit year-on-year fall at -27.6% to 90,116 units. The H1 2025 tally stands at 530.385, off -26.3% over the same period a year ago. Strikingly, the Top 5 manufacturers all sink even faster than the market, in effect all reducing their footprint. Local leader Lada (-29.3%) is down to 26.8% share vs. 29.3% YTD, Haval is off -39.7% to 10.2% vs. 12% and Chery loses -34.8% to 9.8% vs. 10.4%. For its part Changan (-36.6%) is handicapped by a record year-ago showing but still manages 7.1% share, much higher than the 5.6% it commands year-to-date, and a record 4th place. Geely fares the worst at -44.4%. In 6th place, Belarus-Geely joint-venture Belgee goes against the negative market at +25.5%, while Solaris, a local carmaker using the former Hyundai plant in St Petersburg to sell rebadged Hyundai and Kia models, reaches a record 8th position with an all-time high 2.4% share. Finally GAC (+24.8%) scores its first Top 10 finish since last December.
Over in the models charts, the Lada Granta (-28%) keeps the lead and follows the market whereas the Lada Vesta (-49.3%) and Haval Jolion (-48.4%) both implode. The Changan Uni-S (previously CS55 Plus) contains its loss to -23.2% and ascends to a record #4, with a previous best of #6 reached from June to August 2024. The Belgee X50 (-16.4%) also breaks into the Top 5 for the first time at #5, having hit a previous best of #7 just last month. The new Chery Tiggo 4 is up to #6, the ancient Lada Niva Legend (-20.7%) resists better than the market at #8 and the Lada Largus (+5659.5%) catches up on lost time/production at #9.
LCV sales are down -18.8% year-on-year over the First Half of 2025 to 39,25. GAZ remains ultra dominant with 45.3% share, however losing over 10 percentage points over a year ago when it commanded 55.8% of the market. Lada surges 124% to 18.6% share vs. 6.7% a year ago while UAZ (-34%) and Sollers (-28.4%) lose significant ground. Foton jumps 187.2% to #5 ahead of Mercedes (+37.9%) and Isuzu (+51.5%) also in great shape. Model-wise, the GAZ Gazelle Next (-42%)holds 23.6% share vs. 33% a year ago with the Lada Largus LCV (+23566.7%) returning into production at #2.
