Thailand May 2025: BYD passes Isuzu to record third place and 10.5% share

BYD places three models inside the Thai Top 10 for the first time, including the Sealion 7.

54,942 new cars found a buyer in Thailand in May, with the year-to-date volume now standing at 266,092. Toyota leads the way with 36.7% share above Honda at 12.3%, both below their YTD levels. The big event this month is the third place of BYD with a record 10.5% share. The Chinese brand overtakes Isuzu for the first time, even though Isuzu is an established local producer in Thailand. Mitsubishi and Ford exchange rankings vs. last month to #5 and #6 respectively. Tesla climbs back up inside the Top 10, up 14 spots on April to #9 with 2% share. Newcomer Xpeng is up 11 ranks to #18 while we welcome Geely at #20.

Over in the models charts, the Toyota Hilux Revo holds onto the lead but is weak at 9.2% share. The Toyota Yaris Ativ passes the Isuzu D-Max to reach the 2nd spot overall for the first time since we restarted following the Thai market last August. The Toyota Yaris Cross repeats at #4 ahead of the Honda City and HR-V. BYD places three models inside the Top 10 for the first time ever: the Dolphin is up 13 spots on last month to #7, the Sealion 6 down three to #8 and the Sealion 7 up four to #10. The Tesla Model Y is up 83 ranks to #14, by far its best ranking so far.
